The Land

We are located on 31 acres of forest in beautiful Franklin County, North Carolina. The forest is a thriving ecosystem home to many types of animals, including deer, rabbits, foxes, raccoons, coyotes, turtles, frogs, snakes, bats, and chorus of song birds, and birds of prey.

There are many types of trees, an abundance of mushrooms, bushels of mosses, glades of ferns, and so much more!

We have an active forest management plan to maintain the health and thriving diversity of the ecosystem.

The Plan

We’ve cleared the access road, constructed teaching gardens and a chicken coop. built a parking lot. Right now, we’re building a network of trails.

Soon, we’ll be building a welcome center and our first workshop! This one will house the blacksmithing and heavy tools. Future workshops will hold pottery wheels, sewing tables, and more.

Eventually, there will be larger gardens, teaching barns with goats, alpacas, donkeys. We’ll host goat cheese making and fibers arts courses.

Presently, the living classroom programs happen outdoors. Eventually, a dedicated STEAM classroom will hold microscopes, field soil and water test kits, books, and so many more tools of discovery!
